The sound in the night

The sound in the night

that pulled you from your bed
that sent you creeping
stealthy, stealthy
that raced your heart
so that the quiet house
became a task you could not bear,
that sound, that jarring sound
that ominous sonorous thundrous sound,
that sound in the night
that set you weeping,
it was the other shoe that dropped.

  1. Karen...I think this is like how PTSD comes on to a sufferer.

  2. Man that one made me shiver! It's a fabulous poem - AND a scene from a Hitchcock movie!

  7. I love the labels you've attached just as much as the poem. It was a dark and stormy night... when a shoe dropped. :)

    Loved it!
