Phases
Phases
Like that old moon,
We wax and wane;
Just now, we're at the full --
A quiet night,
A glass of wine,
A story shared,
A happy life--
We glow and shine
In one another's light.
We wax, and then we wane.
At times, we're total dark--
A silent house,
What if, what now,
A distant look,
We wonder how
Light disappears;
We orbit separate spheres.

Every Day is Holy
Holy Thurdays undo me.
Not so much the washing
as the offering of self,
the letting others know through
shedding socks and shoes like sin.
It seems a lifetime since
I nightly buffed your old scuffed shoes
and set them by the door,
my small child's way of saying
every day is holy.
Now your old bent feet
cause the years to fall away
like cool dry skin
until I am undone again.
These days if I could,
I'd wash you with my tears;
I'd use my hair to
wipe away our sin.

Morning Sail
On either side
We smooth the waves,
In concert,
Billowing the sails
And tacking west then east,
Bearing for the strait.
It is! It is!
There’s nothing to be had
In pointing fingers.
But I wonder if like me
You wish that you
Could cross the gulf
To reach the other side.
